Fortaleza is the capital city of Ceará state in the north east of Brazil. The city lies on the Atlantic Ocean and it has a number of high quality beaches along its coastline. The city is due to be one of the host cities for the 2014 World Cup and so is benefitting from a large amount of investment in the area.
There are a number of cultures present in Foraleza, and these mostly manifest themselves in the form of different dance and music styles, which can be seen during the Fortaleza carnival season. Although not as well known as some of the other carnivals, Fortaleza has a number of unique styles seen nowhere else, particularly the MaracatuCearense. Tourists often visit this city during carnival season to experience the atmosphere and music.
