In the Steglitz-Zehlendorf are two areas, Stieglitz and Zehlendort. Zehlendorf, once a village, was initially a borough of its own until the reforms of 2001 merged it with its neighbour, Stieglitz. Zehlendorf is one of the oldest and most expensive regions of Berlin. Many of the neighbourhoods are cobblestones, and have houses over 100 years old.
