Wismar is a coastal town with a small port upon the Bay of Wismar. It is under the rule of the district of Nordwestmecklenburg in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpormmern. Plenty of people come to visit Wismar because of the UNESCO world heritage site which has the beautiful, old and well-preserved German brick churches. Do visit the old town center which is considered to be one of the country’s biggest town centers. It is notable for its well-preserved building with Romanesque revival, German Gothic and Art Noveau styles. See the Wasserkunst, a 16th century fountain from Holland. The Alter Schwede or Old Swede Gothic warehouse built iin the late 13th century. Also check out the 13th century Nikolaikirche and the ruins of the Marienkirche which used to be the main parish of Wismar.
