Salonica, officially known as Thessaloniki, is a large city and capital of the Central Macedonia region. Salonica is the second largest city in Greece and serves as an important cultural, economic and political center. It has a history dating back more than 3000 years and has successfully preserved its Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman heritages, with many sites being included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site lists.
