Tegucigalpa is the capital city of Honduras. It is commonly abbreviated to simply Tegus, and has the nickname of the Silver Mountain. It was founded by the Spanish and retains many of its colonial charms today.
Situated in the southern-central highland region, it sits in a valley and is surrounded by soaring mountains. Within, or near to, Tegucigalpa City Center, there are many things to do and see. These include Central Park, with the statue of Francisco Morazan, La Tigra National Park, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the former Presidential Palace, which is now home to a museum, the pretty United Nations National Park, from which one can enjoy great views of the city, Picacho Zoo, the Basilica of the Virgin of Suyapa, the Manual Bonilla Theater, and La Merced Church.
