Barletta is a city situated on the Adriatic coast in the south east of Italy. It lies in the north of the Apulia region of the country. Geographically the city sits at the south western end of the Manfredonia Gulf and is located opposite the Gargano promontory. Within the city are a range of ancient and beautiful buildings and monuments. Perhaps the most impressive is The Castle, a building that started life as a Norman motte and bailey castle that has gradually been modified and developed into an impressive stone fortress. The city is also well known for its grapes and olives, which can be found in the local cuisine.
