Cuneo is a city and commune in the Piedmont area of Northern Italy. Its location, at the base of the Italian Maritime Alps and the Sutra di Demonte River, makes it a very scenic location. Cuneo was founded in the 1100s as a commune to escape the governance of the Bishops of Asti. Control passed for generations between the bishops, who seized the town, and the Cuenisi who’d rebel for freedom. Eventually, in order to gain greater protection against stronger neighbours, they were acquired by the Duchy of Savoy
