Fano is a popular beach resort on Italy’s Adriatic coast. During this time, the city was known as Fanum Fortunae. This old name refers to the temple of Fortuna that was built during Roman times. The first reference to this ancient city is during the reign of Caesar Augustus, who led the city in 49 BC. Caesar August fortified the town and expanded it. The defensive wall can still be seen today.

Sites worth seeing in this town include the aforementioned roman wall (The Arco D’ Augustus), a grand hall most likely constructed around 1357. The Civic Museum displays the city’s history from the roman times through to the present.
Of course, the beach and natural setting are easily the most common attractions in Faro. The town of Pesaro is a short trip away, as are numerous other sites.
