Imola is a town in the province of Bologna, and is often considered the gateway to Bologna’s historic region. Imola is located on the Santerno River. The town was builtaround 82 BC and originally called Foum Cornelii named after the Roman dictator Cornelius Sulla. The town served as an important agricultural center and was also famous for the ceramics it produced. In more modern, this town was a former host of the Grand Prix tour between 1984 and 2006. It held the San Marino Grand Prix, since the nearby republic of San Marino is too small to host the race itself. While the race is no longer held here, you can still visit the track and see the memorial to the two racers who died in a 1994 crash.There is much to do in and around Imola.
