Lauria is a small town situated near the Potenza-Calabria provincial borders. It was first developed around the site of the Sanctuary of Madonna dell'Armo. A castle was long attributed to Roger of Lauria, but was more likely built by the Saracens. The 1100s, Laura was part of a Normand fief held by Gibel Lauria and his son Richard.
The main sites of this small town are religious buildings and the aforementioned castle. There’s a variety of hotels and places to dine in this small town. It is also ideally suited for day trips in to the nearby Calabria, a province known for its stunning scenery, and around Potenza.
