Lecce is a moderately city in Italy’s south. It’s a leading city in the Puglia region and the Salentine sub-peninsula (The “heel” of Italy). Lecce is renowned for its baroque architecture, earning the city its reputation as “The Florence of the South”.

A legend states that a city called Sybar existed near this site at the time of the Trojan War. Sybar was supposed to be founded by an early Italian tribe called the Messapi. Later, the city was taken over by the Romans, who renamed the city Lupiae, after the Lpyges who originally inhabited the city. Lecce has numerous sites of interests for tourists, ranging from churches and other religious buildings to ancient roman amphitheatre and various museums relating to the city’s history.
