Livorno is a city in Italy, on the Tyrrhenian Sea, in the northern region of Tuscany. Originally, Livorno was built in 1017 as one of a series of fortresses to defend nearby Pisa. During the Renaissance, this coastal town became idealized as an “ideal town”, ruled by Medici family. At the end of the 16th century, major additions were designed and built by the architect Bernardo Buontalenti.
Today, the port and Orlando shipyard are important parts of the Economy. Galliano Liquoris a traditional spirit stillbrewed in Livorno today. Traditional liquor, Tuaca, was brewed in Livorno until l2010 when the factory closed, and was bought by an American outfit.
