Manfredonia is a town within the Puglia province of Italy. It’s located on the eastern coast, to the south of Monte Gargano. The first settlement in the area was of Greek colonists lead by Diomedes. The town later fell to the Samneites, but was liberated by Alexander of Epicus, a relative of Alexander the Great. Rome took the city about 189 BC and Manfreodnia became a Roman colony. In 663, following the Fall of Rome, the Slavs conquered the city, followed by the Saracens in the 9th century and the Normans in the 11th century.
