Massa is a popular tourist area in the Scenic Tuscany region of Italy. It’s located along the valley of the Frigido River and near the Tyrrhenian Sea. Massa has been existence since at least the Roman times. Later, in the 1th to 19th century, Massa was the capital of the independent Principate (later called a Duchy) of Massa and Carrara. This principate were ruled by the Malaspina and Cybo-Malaspina families. The country joined the Kingdom of Sardinia during the unification of Italy.
The palaces of the Malasapina and other notable families are key sites of note in Massa. The Malasapina family’s palace is o the top of a sizeable hill, allowing for a panoramic view of the city and nearby land. A Cathedral is also an important site, as are two well know plazas.
