Chetumal is located in Quintana-Roo province, and is the provincial capital. It sits on the mouth of the Honda River, on Chetumal Bay very close to the border with Belize. This is a port city and key to the region and the main trading gateway for Mexico. The area was former Maya colony, until the Spanish colonists settled and took over the region. History of the Maya is displayed in Chetumal in a prominent museum.A Local zoo is another excellent feature that should be experienced while staying in Chetumal.
