Kathu is a town located in Northern Cape Province of South Africa. The town is known to be the iron ore capital of the Province of Northern Cape. Kathu refers to the town which is built underneath tree. This is because a camel thorn forest is situated here. This kind of forest is found only two in number in the entire world. Due to these reasons, during early nineteenth century, the Kathu Forest was known as a State Forest and in 1995 it was declared as a Natural Heritage Forest. The town is also prone to mining. The Kumba Iron Ore is the most important mining zone in Kathu. Kathu also has lots of Golf courses in the north.
