Situated in Scotland, Ayr is in the country of Ayrshire. Ayr sits on the coast, near to the mouth of the River Ayr. There is a sandy beach with an esplanade for tourists and locals to spend a leisure time at.
Ayr is the site of the first Parliament of Scotland, held by Robert the Bruce in 1315. Later In time, Cromwell used Ayr as a fortress and base for some of his men. Many parts of the wall that Cromwell built around the town remain today. In the past, Ayr was a Royal Burgh, and the chief of the council was called a provost. This position is retained today. The names of all provosts are entered into a town Bible. The views from Ayr are spectacular, with the Isle of Arran often visible, and in good conditions one can also see the tip of northern island.

Ayr is well connected by road to other areas, thus renting a car is a good idea!
