Twinned with three international cities, Hertford is the county town of Hertfordshire in England. The name comes from Anglo Saxon times, and means the ford frequented by stags or harts. The town sits at the confluence of four river valleys; the Beam, Rib and Mimram join the River Lea, and then they continue flowing south towards the Thames.
The charming town centre still retains its medieval layout. There are many timber-framed buildings. Hertford Castle is a nice place to visit. The County Hall, Church of Saint Leonard, the Quaker House, Wallace House, the Shire Hall, Hertford Museum, and churches are also good places to see. In St Andrew’s Church you can see a mysterious stained glass window, which some believe link Hertford to the Kights Templar and the Holy Grail.
The best way to get around the town is with a rented car from VIP Cars.
