Broadstairs is located in the English county of Kent and lies about 130 kilometres away from London. It is a coastal town on the Isle of Thanet. The name of the town comes from a previous flight of steps in the chalk cliff, which led from the sandy area up to the 11th-century shrine of St Mary on the top of the cliff. Previously a smuggling hotspot, it is now a popular seaside resorts. Broadstairs has kept much of its historical interest, in particular a strong religious history. It is also an important maritime centre. There is a yearly folk festival, which lasts for a full week.
