Peterborough is a historic cathedral city in the English county of Cambridgeshire. It falls under the region of East Anglia. With its close proximity to the area’s flatlands, Peterborough is known as the 'Gateway to the Fens'. Places of interest in the city include Peterborough Cathedral, with its unique English Gothic Portico and its original 13th century painted nave ceiling. This is the only such ceiling in England, and one of four in Europe. Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery is free to look inside and has several interesting exhibits and displays. The Flag Fen provides an insight into the Bronze Age. The Queensgate Centre is the main shopping area in Peterborough.
