St Louis is a large city and major river port located in the US state of Missouri. Often called the 'Gateway to the West’, this city is named after King Louis IX of France, and is located on the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers. The city’s metropolitan region, Greater St Louis, is the largest in the state and is home to a number of major corporations. This city's economy is mostly based on the services, trade, manufacturing and tourism industries.
The Gateway Arch, in the Jefferson Memorial Park, is the symbol of St Louis and is the world tallest national monument. Other major attractions for travelers to visit include the Cathedral Basilica of St Louis, the City Museum, and the Eads Bridge. One can also go to Downtown St Louis and visit the many upscale restaurants, shopping centers and businesses there.
