Badajoz is a city located close to the Spanish border with Portugal in west central Spain. Capital of the Badajoz province, in the autonomous community of Extremadura, this city is also situated on the left bank of the River Guardiana. The main attraction in Badajoz is its Moorish Citadel, which was initially built in the 9th century and rebuilt in the 12th century by the Almohad Dynasty. The Badajoz Cathedral, built outside the citadel is a Gothic style cathedral and is known for its fortress like appearance. Other attractions here are La Giralda, Jardines de la Galera and the Museum of Contemporary Art.
